Experience
I am starting my fifth year as principal of Maiden Elementary. I started my career at Fred T. Foard High School as a Special Education Teacher and softball coach. Next, I went to Blackburn Elementary as a Resource Special Education teacher. I returned back to Fred T. Foard as the self-contained Special Education Teacher and softball coach, and began coaching the Women's golf team. Then, I took the next step in my career by going into administration. I served as the Assistant Principal of Maiden Middle School for four years before I was given the opportunity to serve as Principal at Maiden Elementary.
Education
B.S. Special Education, Appalachian State University
M.A. Executive Leadership, Gardner-Webb University
Why I Became an Educator
Throughout my years in Catawba County Schools, I had amazing teachers who touched my life in special ways. One teacher in particular stands out to me from Mountain View Elementary: Ms. Hayes, my 5th-grade teacher. She always pushed me to be better and encouraged me to excel in all areas. Additionally, getting to know my friend's little sister, who has Down Syndrome, played a key role in my decision to become a Special Education teacher. Spending time with her inspired me to work with students with disabilities, and I am blessed because of her daily inspiration.
Favorite Place in Catawba County
My favorite place in Catawba County is the house I grew up in from birth until the day I moved out as an adult. I grew up on Greedy Highway and lived there for 22 years. I have fond memories of my childhood, and, of course, memories that have shaped me into the person that I am today. My childhood home is now someone else's home, but I still drive by when I have the chance to remember those times in life.
I grew up attending Catawba County Schools and always loved the school system. I had a great experience as a student, which led me to pursue a degree in education and lead within the school system. I love serving our students, teachers, and communities. Catawba County holds a special place in my heart.

Experience
I have worked in public education for nearly 15 years. I began my career as a middle school teacher in Charlotte, at one of the largest middle schools in the state. I taught language arts four years and math one year. I also coached cheerleading, served on the Building Leadership Team, served as team leader, and served as grade level chair for a 6th grade team with 16 teachers. I enjoyed teaching 6th grade reading and math at Balls Creek Elementary. There I served on the School Leadership Team, served as team leader, was voted Teacher of the Year by my peers, and was actively involved with all school functions. I served as assistant principal at Maiden Elementary for the 2019-2020 school year.
Education
B.A. Elementary Education, Pfeiffer University
Master of School Administration, Appalachian State University
Why I Became an Educator
Both of my parents were career educators and influenced me to pursue a career in education. When I was growing up they taught at a K-8 school in a small, tight-knit community. They were the teachers that all the students hoped to have, and that parents requested for their children. Their dedication and love for their students called them to go above and beyond expectations on a daily basis. Relationships were paramount to them. The differences they made in the lives of their students was apparent as they continued to hear from several of them years after their retirement. Staff became extended family to us. Before I even began school, I attended countless PTO performances, home visits, book fairs, bake sales, fall festivals, etc. I always felt a sense of pride being there beside such highly revered teachers and individuals.
Favorite Place in Catawba County
Lake Norman is one of my favorite places in Catawba County. It's a beautiful place to enjoy days off with friends and family.
Favorite Activities
I enjoy boating, kayaking, camping, beekeeping and gardening.
Something Unique About Me
I was a flight attendant for USAirways for 10 years before I pursued my degree in education.
The team approach, the camaraderie, and collegial relationships I have found within Catawba County Schools have offered me the opportunity to help our students see growth and experience success.

Why I Became a School Nurse
I became a School Nurse because it involves two of my favorite things, nursing and children. I enjoy being able to help children feel better even if it is something as simple as a band-aid, a peppermint or just reassuring them. I also enjoy the schedule of my job and being able to spend time with my family.
